"Lincoln, in
contrast, seems to be genuinely interested in serving on the school
board. A contract employee for an agency at Microsoft, she has
brains, a record of civic service and energy to spare. Lincoln is an
ambitious candidate who likely would make her mark on the board as
an engaged and active member."

The economy is on everyone’s mind. This past year, the school district sent out RIF notices to many teachers. Federal ARRA funding helped bring many back, although not necessarily at their first choice of assignments. There are new schools coming on line, a critical levy renewal and a bond coming up.
As a technical
consultant and contract worker, I have seen many changes in my
employment landscape
and
financial experience. I understand the
intrinsic value of steady employment and the wealth of knowledge
gained from subtle to colossal alterations in work environments.
There is much to be gained from a variety of life experiences and it
is good when we understand that we can take the bumps we get in life
and become stronger and more valuable because of them.
What's do I see as important in our public schools? ...very much, this is only a partial list.
•Early childhood learning: babies begin learning right after birth, there are many good reasons to begin teaching them as early as you can. When they are prepared before beginning school they are more successful in school.
•Transportation corridor safety: getting to and from school safely is a big issue in Bethel with fast roads, narrow shoulders, heavily congested corridors and large district size. Collaboration with other levels of government to achieve better transportation safety will help save lives.•Core subjects: the value of learning basic skills, and establish good educational habits for a lifetime of learning, including more success in math & science (my majors) and lower dropout rates
•Diversity of offerings: the spectrum of employment opportunities is vast and education should offer some flexibility to choose from a diverse pool of courses to allow students to explore their talents. Some during school, some after school. Cooperative efforts for continuing education should continue to be explored and expanded when possible
•Crime and school safety: It is important that our schools are places to celebrate learning, not breeding places for criminal activities nor fortresses to keep out the world. Programs promoting principled behavior, such as the Core Qualities Project, drug abuse prevention programs, participation in extracurricular sports and other activities for healthy interaction with others should continue to be available to all kids regardless of income levels.
•Property values have dropped, but property taxes won't adjust for a year. It is important that property tax rates don't squeeze people from their homes, which is one of the most important investments a family makes.
•Class sizes, mainstreaming, budget constraints, lack of text books, vaccinations, women's sports, and diversity are all important topics as well, but the issues surrounding them vary. If you have a situation with another issue, please address it to me specifically.
Please peruse the information I have put on this site. It is my desire that you will see I have the dedication to and interest in the well being of the community at heart. I want you to know that casting your vote for me will be a wise choice for the Bethel community.
